Heather is a symbol of luck and protection. It grows wild in the alpine during the summer. In folklore, it is known as "the flower of the fairies."
This piece features locally sourced heather (in this case from my window sill) preserved in expired resin, which gives it a beautiful golden colour, with mylar flakes to simulate the flash of fire opal, encased in hemp macrame.
Expired resin is one of my favourite mediums to work with. Not only are shops happy to find it a home rather than have to throw it out, it actually functions beautifully as a golden stain on wood pieces, and it looks like amber once it's cured!
This particular piece is one of the last from my first preserved local floral collection!
Although this piece most definitely can get wet, keeping it out of water will extend its life.
